About Me
I'm Professor Jo Ann Caplin
For 25 years I have been studying and teaching the relationships between science and art. Although both have always been my interests, it was when I left my Emmy-winning career as a network news producer to become a professor, that I was able to dive more into these fields and how they relate.
At the University of Pennsylvania, my most popular courses were The Science of Leonardo da Vinci, and another called Einstein and Picasso. My emphasis was not just on the nature of their genius, but also on the environments in which the works were created, especially for Einstein to create the Theory of Relativity, and for Picasso to create Cubism at about the same time. Einstein and Picasso changed science and Western art respectively. Leonardo was ahead of his time.
I’m available for lectures, or short class topics (4 to 6 classes), on these and other topics related to Science+Art, as well as topics relating to Leonardo, Einstein, Picasso, Warhol, Bonnard, Matisse, Cezanne, as well and the nature of genius, plus bioethics in the intersection of Science+Art.
I’m excited to continue to pass along what I’ve learned and have been teaching, to a wider audience.
